Here's a shot of Vindya in her school uniform:

I don't (yet) have one of LiJun with her teacher because she was too embarassed that her friends would see me doing something so dorky. I'll get one next week.
Vindya was excited and thrilled to be in "1 Class!!" and to be in the same school as her sister. (Note to Lou: Everytime someone asked her name, she clapped and sang it for them. "Vin Dy A Thomp Son!" We've created a monster!) This lasted until I tried to leave the room, at which point she fell apart. I told the teacher she would be better when I left, and went away. I could hear her crying behind me, which wasn't fun, but I figured it was more playacting than real.
As I was typing this up, the school called. She left the classroom and refused to go back. The two teachers trying to deal with this were male, and she wouldn't go near them and was visibly upset. They finally got her to go with them to LiJun's classroom, and she calmed her down and took her back to her own. One of the para-teachers is sitting with her. The teacher who called me said that she was clearly testing them, checking the boundaries and trying to find out what she could get away with. He also said that, once she was back in the room and saw the other kids sitting at their desks, she instantly wanted to sit at hers, and everything seems fine.

De Hanuman is a nothing short of a genius with children, I volunteer at the school a lot and am constantly blown away by his ability to calm and redirect kids. It's truly a gift. He's also easy to talk with and really listens to parental input — Vindya will be in great hands if De needs to be pulled in to help. He helped Clara so much with her anxiety about school — she always tells me De is her best friend at school. Good luck, it's so hard to see them in distress!
ReplyDeleteShe is obviously as bright as her mother and sister. When things get figured out in her head, she's going to be a force of nature. And I love the blue bow in her hair.
