Minnesota Chinese Daycare Graduation

Friday evening, the daycare Vindya has been at for a whole week now had their yearly graduation.  They said that Vindya had enthusiastically participated in the rehearsals, and that she was welcome in the performance.  So, LiJun and I headed over.

We heard her before we saw her, yodeling in excitement.  "Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow!" nonstop as the class came down the hallway.  You never saw a happier or more excited girl.  She broke ranks to run over and jump up and down and show me her outfit - a pink spangly tutu-thing and red puffs in her hair.

Then the performance ended, and she found out that she had to take all this off before she could go home.  She was ready to have a fit, but LiJun took her by the hand and led her back into the dressing room and changed her clothes.  I don't know what she said, but Vindya was still smiling when she came out with her street clothes on.  (Then we told her there was no school tomorrow, and the floodgates opened.  But one step at a time.)

One of the most entertaining things to do was watch what wasn't in the performance.  They do the same routines every year for each class, so the older kids know the younger kids' dances.  While the little ones were onstage (i.e., in the middle of the church fellowship hall), I could look at the side of the room and see the bigger kids all dancing along.  Even better, I could look at the audience and see the older brothers and sisters dancing along.  Truly, it cracked me up.

Mom and Dad drove up from Alabama to attend every single one of these that LiJun was in.  This is known as masochism unconditional love.  (The director asked if they were coming, and was disappointed to hear that they had been here two weeks ago.  I assured him that, if they had known Vindya was performing, they would have been here.)

So that they don't feel they have missed anything, here are some videos of Vindya's routine.  See if you can spot her.

  1. So cute Juli, so nice in these moments to have a younger child back in the home. Vindya is doing so well. Love the pics Lijun took.
